I’d like to introduce you to the seventh member of our family, Scout. Scout has been with us since she was a puppy. She is a seven year old yellow lab, and the sweetest dog you’ll find anywhere.
I once read “everyone thinks they have the best dog, and no one is wrong.” I really like that. There is a reason why dogs are known as “man’s best friend.” But in all seriousness, Scout really is the best.
However, as much as we love her, we don’t travel with her unless we are going to spend time on our family land. The thought of traveling with 4 kids and a large dog really isn’t daunting to me. All the kids would be glad to help us with Scout, and she is really so very easy going and laid back. She has her special “spot” in both the car and in the Monkey Barrel, and for a large dog, she’s actually never in the way. However, she would really limit what we would be able to do on our trips, that it really isn’t practical to take her. I can’t imagine us deciding on a whim to go to a museum, for instance, and not have a safe place to put her. Sure, we could leave her in the car with the engine running, but the car will automatically turn off the engine after it’s been idle for a set amount of time. Further, I just couldn’t do that to her.
